Who could have ever foreseen that offering to speak with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions and without giving any indications of what one might do if Crazy Mahmoud told you to go fly a kite would turn out like this… I mean, other than people with functioning brains.
Courtesy of the Obama Administrations foreign policy, at this point, we have little choice but to pray that Egypt will become another Turkey instead of another Iran. And it could have been different if the raving egomaniac had the good sense to work behind the scenes to facilitate changes in Egypt instead of humiliating the leader of a country that has been a stabilizing force in the region for decades (which is not to imply that Mubarak was a saint. Merely to point out that as far as strong men go, he wasn’t that bad, and that on his way out we could have at least given him a respectable exit)
The report says Mubarak feels “humiliated and embittered at Obama’s most recent statement about the need for him to resign immediately”, so he rejected the call.
